Styled Shoot at the New York Flower Market

The New York Flower Market... it's one of those one-off places in Manhattan that still maintains its old world charm. A little corner of New York where the "honor system" is still a way of business. Where having a relationship with the shop owners speaks volumes, and where you need to really know "the rules" to get what you want.
When I first began Merci, the flower market fascinated me. I don't think it's something brides know much about - so I thought we would share a few contributions that really dig in to its rules, mores and unsuspecting beauty.
Ah its beauty. This adorable styled shoot photographed by Amber Knowles and Blush Designs really shows just that. Amber, Blush and a tres-talented team of New York City stylists, artists and designers put together this darling shoots inside some of the market's most reputable spots. I love the beautiful bouquet based around a light blue anemone, and the unique story to the vintage Carolyn Curtis dress... From the Designers:
We wanted a blue/purple color palette for our main bouquet, so that it would contrast from the greens and browns of the Flower Market. On the morning of our shoot we happened across gorgeous violet Anemone and Hyacinth, and loved the juxtaposition of the delicate Anemone to the structural bulbs of Hyacinth. The hair pieces were also made of the same flowers to compliment the bouquet.

Considering the natural elements of the Flower Market, we decided on a more organic styling. The lace dress is a completely cut-apart and re-worked vintage piece literally found in a box in a friend's family barn. The light purple fingerless gloves are hand-knit. This adds a sense of history and uniqueness to the photographs that can be felt on a subtle level, without being overpowering or distracting. The whole outfit is textured and feminine; the chunky sweater and rain boots were chosen to make the outfit more appropriate for the setting, and also to serve as a balance to the delicacy of the dress. Our lovely model holds a copper watering can with pink Astible, adding color and an ethereal sensibility to her overall look.
