It seems that while the majority of plastic surgery patients are Caucasian, procedures have dropped by 2 percent in this group. (Source: Plasticsurgery.org) Not so for Latinas!
Cosmetic procedures among Latinas experienced the biggest jump among all ethnic groups-18percent!
"We're seeing a rise in Hispanics opting for cosmetic procedures that coincides with the growth we're seeing in the nation's population," said ASPS President John Canady, MD. "Less social stigma, as well as, advances in procedures allow patients to maintain their ethnic look. While the majority of patients continue to be Caucasian, the profile of the typical patient is changing."
The 2009 Report of the 2008 Statistics of Plastic Surgery Statistics reveals that there has been an increase in minimally invasive cosmetic procedures for all ethnicities. In fact, among Latinas, blacks and Asians, the most commonly requested cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures were Botox®, injectable fillers, and chemical peel.
This just proves something all Latino families have known all along -- when it comes to the women in the family looking good, there's no expense too great!
Also in Los Angeles, (4 February 2008) – The February issue of Tu Ciudad, the English-language guide to Latino L.A., reveals the increasing trend of Latinas going under the knife for cosmetic enhancements. Nationally, Latinos make for 8% of the 11 million plastic surgeries in the U.S., up 5% from 2000 according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Locally, Latinos account for 22% of plastic surgery patients.
“We wanted to shed some light on the growing fascination with Latinas and plastic surgery in a city infamous for such vanity,” comments Editor-in-Chief Oscar Garza. “Now that Latinos are the largest ethnic group in the U.S., more attention is given to how we are advancing socially, and how we spend disposable income.””*
Latinas- go easy with these things and remember that they still involve surgery and that any surgery can be very serious.
