"Dancing with the Stars" makeup tricks

Yesterday I was invited to attend a presentation by Melanie Mills, head makeup artist for "Dancing with the Stars"   They invited makeup artists through our agencies so it was a very nice intimate crowd of professionals only.
She shared a lot of her show secrets with us.  Here are some of the things I found interesting.
-they start with a makeup and hair team of 20 people for 16 contestants and whittle it down as they eliminate the participants.
-they have about 5 hours to get them ready before the show but only about 10 minutes for changes during the show.  She said literally there are two makeup artists working on a dancer at a time.
-right after they dance they have about 30 seconds to run to the "confessions" room.  So the makeup artists are running after the contestants with kleenex trying to blot their sweat.
-they spend the day prior to the show getting a spray tan, then the day of the show they "sponge" them with a self tanner and then with her own "secret combination" which she said includes peach and gold pigments to make the skin glimmer on camera.
-Looks are based on the wardrobe and the style of dance.  She makes sketches for each person and already has all the producs picked by the time they get to her...
As far as foundation she swears by Dior and Armani as well as Mac mineral makeup, RCMA creme foundation and Lancome's tinted moisturizer.   Here's a shot of Mya on last week's show.  She said she used MAC's pigment in Teal on her eyes to match the color of her dress.

And some shots of the event and of the model she used (sorry about the quality, I took them with my Iphone :))

The look she did was based on the gold outfit the model was wearing.  She used MAC's cream colour base as a primer to help the glitter adhere to the eyes.  She said the uses tape to clean up the face from any fallen glitter.  Also she always used a kleenex under the eyes to make sure that the products wasn't going all over the place.
She used MAC fluidline as an eyeliner- even inside the waterline...
Lips are balm with lipliner over it (her trick to make the lipstick not stick to the hair while dancing with the hair down)
