Fall 2009 makeup trends

Ok, chicas. Here's the latest from the Fall 2009 Runways... Here are my favorite looks from the Fall 2009 Runways. It's time to try something slightly new, come on--makeup is also like your wardbrobe-don't you get bored of doing things always the same way?

The big trends in Makeup were:
-Gray- HUGE deal on clothing and makeup. It's definately the new black! Silvery/gray eyeshadow and eyeliner were the biggest makeup story for the season.
-Modern Somoky eye- On some shows we saw no eyeliner and again charcoal grays on the eyes for a smoky effect. Another trend? Makeup artists at Zac Pozen and Narciso Rodriguez actually used gloss in the middle of the eyelid when doing a smoky eye. How can you do that? add a dab of light shimmery shadow in the middle of the lid after you are done with the rest of the eyes.
-Modern Romantic look- Carolina Herrera really embraced it by using a "shimmery pigment on eyes and cheekbones" (remember shimmer and not heavy shine!) It just means that you can obtain it by using a highlighting type cheek and eye color with a bit of sparkle.
-Creamy lids with texture
-Lilac! at Jason Wu, we saw pinks and purples on the lips. Gucci Westman (makeup artist for the show) called it "think of Cate Blanchett in The Lord of the rings." ***Don't be scared if you have darker skin just stay away from "bubble gum" like pinks and fuschias.

Overall, this was a "pretty" season for makeup. The only exxagerated looks were the 80's in which we saw everything from Cindy Lauper like neon to a strong, sexy woman at Marc Jacobs. Also we saw (again) red lips but it seems that pinkish red was the fashionable tone.

To me Fall 2009 was a "happy" season that overall embraced femininity. It is one of the few times in which I feel a "real" woman can actually wear the makeup that was shown at the collections. Signs of the economy or maybe just plain realism?
